In June 2005 Kim Taylor was notified that a ground-breaking operation was about to be performed in Shanghai's Renji Hospital - open heart surgery using acupuncture analgesia as the main anaesthetic.

Kim Taylor was commissioned by the BBC to organise and direct the filming of the operation and of the subsequent interviews with patient, family and doctors.
