In January/February 2009 Kaimu Productions co-ordinated a complex shooting event in Djibouti, North Africa and the Gulf of Aden for Shanghai Television's news division, radio division and Documentary Channel. This was the first time that Shanghai Television had ever visited the territory. The main filming topic concerned international efforts against piracy attacks on global shipping traffic through the Gulf of Aden. Kaimu Productions was able to secure exclusive filming access to a French naval vessel, the FS Floreal, which embarked on a ten day patrol mission and was successful in capturing eight pirates, all of which was captured on camera. Other topics filmed were the impressive French forces in Djibouti, the Chinese Ambassador to Djibouti, Mr. Zhang Guoqing, Shanghai Zhenhua Shipping operations in the port of Djibouti, a 24 nation international conference on combatting piracy, and, by some coincidence, the Somali Presidential Elections concurrently being held in Djibouti.
